Act I

A year ago Nanki-Poo fell in love with the lovely Yum-Yum when he was second
trombone in the town-band. Hearing that her guardian and her betrothed, Ko-Ko,
the tailor, has just been condemned to death for flirting, Nanki-Poo has returned
to press his suit with her. However, Ko-Ko has been raised to the rank of Lord High
Executioner. His marriage to Yum-Yum can thus proceed.
